ART 101 FIELD TRIP

Assignment:

1. Pick a work that stopped you in your tracks.  Tell me why:
What does it look like? (Formal Analysis)
What does it mean? (Iconographic Analysis)
Who did it? What did the artist's/society's background bring to the piece? (Contextual Analysis)

2. Pick a work you think doesn’t belong there.  Tell me why, using Formal, Iconographic and Contextual Analysis.
Why do you think educated curators paid thousands for it?  Really think about this one! What do they know, or think they        know that you don't?

3. Just for fun: Do some “star” spotting: How many works can you find that we’ve met before? Do they look different “in the flesh?”
