This class is designed to take you through all the aspects of gallery
practices for both artists and those who want to become curators or "gallerists."
You will learn how to find galleries and publications that a fit the
style of art you make or represent.
Develop public relation strategies. (Mailing lists, contact lists,
and networking.)
Photograph and edit photographs of art work.
Design press releases and catalogs using Microsoft Word and or Adobe
Indesign.
Pitch a show to a gallery including our own at Ohlone.
ART-117A Museum and Gallery Techniques (Exhibition Production)

This course is an introduction to the operation and display of visual
art within a gallery and museum space. It involves a broad range of activities
covering the care and handling, responsibility, and security of art shown
in the College’s Art Gallery. (GC)

This course continues the production and display techniques experienced
in ART-117A. The emphasis will be to give students a working understanding
of the methods of preparing materials for promoting and disseminating information
important to the exhibition of art in the College’s gallery. Repeatable
= 1 time (GC)

schedule will need to be adjusted.
ATTENDANCE
Since this class consists of a series
of activities and events it is hard to enforce an absolute attendance policy.
You are required to make yourself available for events and meetings
listed in the calendar and you are expected and requested to attend as
many gallery functions outlined on the calendar as possible.
EXAMINATIONS
There are no examinations in this
course.
EVALUATION OF STUDENT PERFORMANCE
Evaluation is based on the fulfilment
to the projects which you volunteer and commit to do over the course of
the semester. If you fail to live up to your commitments your overall
grade will drop for each failure to perform. Here are the list of
possible tasks/assignments that you may choose from. You must do
at least two of the following items but you may do more as your time permits.
