- Paper Version Due Tuesday May 5th at the beginning of class. If you are late I will not accept it and it will be an automatic zero. (Remember I lock the doors when class begins.)
These are the main ideas I had in designing this paper is for you.(10 points) The Structure:
- Analyze a single work of art in depth. Your paper should be an exploration of a work of art that goes beyond what you have read in the textbook and lecture. Your research should cause you discover something new about the work of art.
- Development a powerful, original, and compelling thesis or main idea that you will prove in the body of your paper.
- Use and demonstrate an understanding of formal, iconographic, and contextual analyses to prove your thesis.
- Use and demonstrate the vocabulary that you have learned in this class. See suggested terms at the bottom of this page.
- Demonstrate an understanding and use the five paragraph essay format you have learned about in class.
- Analyze the work using all of the three categories we regularly use in class: formal, iconographic and contextual analysis.
- Relate the work of art that you are analyzing to the primary and secondary texts used in this class.
- Teach you how to cite sources and write a research paper
(10 points) Spelling and Grammar.
- The structure of the paper should be based on five paragraph long freshman essay which consists of:
- Introductory sentence in which you provide your thesis statement (opinion) and which planes of analysis you are using.
- Body of the paragraph/essay. The paragraph provides detailed explanation and proof supporting your point of view. The criteria of this paragraphs must be one or two of the following:
- formal analysis
- iconographic analysis
- contextual analysis
- Conclusion sentence. In this sentence you sum up or punctuate what you have already told me.
Check the mechanics of your paper. Grammar, spelling and punctuation count. If you turn in a paper with run on sentences, poor punctuation, spelling errors, or if you misspell the name of a major character or title, you will be marked down a full letter grade. You need to italicize the titles of the works. (You do not italicize or set off the names of buildings but you should italicize unfamiliar or foreign words the first time you use them.) (10 Points) Formatting and Research Requirements (If any of these requirements are left out or omitted your grade will be affected substantially.)Your essay should include the title of the works, the artist's name, the period and region they come from, and the building and location where they are housed now. All titles of works should be italicized or bracketed by quotation marks. (You do not italicize or set off the names of buildings but you should italicize unfamiliar or foreign words the first time you use them.) Your paragraphs should have a topic sentence, body sentences, and a conclusion. Paper must be double spaced and typed. The largest font size you may use is 12 point use times roman font or something very simple. Paper must have a heading. Cover page or folder is unacceptable. You must use additional sources please make sure to include a "Works Cited" page and use parenthetical citations. You may use only one internet site; however, you can use use as many articles as you like from the electronic database. Books, Articles from journals magazines or newspapers are excellent sources.
