Requirements for Art Appreciation Paper #1

The goal is to write a complete grammatical paragraph.  The paragraph is a  formal analysis of the building the Parthenon.  This paragraph should be written using the vocabulary and concepts that you read and learned about in the previous weeks.
 

Concept/Thought
The main idea for this paper is for you to use and demonstrate an understanding of what a formal analysis is and to show that you understand and can use the vocabulary we've covered so far.  The paragraph is a  formal analysis of the building the Parthenon.  This paragraph should be written using the vocabulary and concepts that you read and learned about in the previous weeks.


Spelling and Grammar.

  • Check the mechanics of your paper.  Grammar, spelling and punctuation count.  If you turn in a paper with run on sentences, poor punctuation, more than 5 spelling errors, or if you misspell the name of a major character or title, you will be marked down a full letter grade.  (You do not italicize or set off the names of buildings but you should italicize unfamiliar or foreign words the first time you use them.)

  • Your topic sentence should include the name of the building and the architects and sculptor who worked on it.
  • Your paragraph should have a topic sentence, body sentences, and a conclusion.
  • The paper must be a minimum of 7 complete sentences. (This is a half page to one page paper.)
  • Paper must be double spaced and typed. The largest font size you may use is 12 point use times roman font or something very simple.
  • Paper must have a heading. Cover page or folder is unacceptable.  Here's what a heading should have:

  • All titles of works should be italicized or bracketed by quotation marks. (You do not italicize or set off the names of buildings but you should italicize unfamiliar or foreign words the first time you use them.)
  • Where appropriate, make sure you include the full artist/authors name, titles, and dates of any works mentioned in your essay.
  • Try to write this off the top of your head without opening the textbook or using the internet first.  If you need to you may use additional sources please make sure to include a bibliography and use parenthetical citations.  Bibliography and citations must be in standard MLA or APA form.  Go to this site for a guide:
